Carpals
Carpus is the anatomical assembly connecting the hand with the forearm. The major role of the carpus is to enable effective positioning of the hand and powerful use of the extensors and flexors of the forearm. The mobility of individual carpal bones increase the freedom of movements of the wrist. Listed are the names of the eight bones that form the carpus which interact with the ulna and radius to allow the wrist to rotate vertically and for the extension of the hand.

The wrist is more stable in flexion than in extension because of the strength of various capsules and ligaments than in the strength alone of the interlocking parts of the skeleton that forms the wrist joint called the carpus or the carpal bones.
