Deltoid Muscle Posterior

The Deltoid muscle is located on the shoulder and is what forms the rounded contour of the shoulder. Anatomically , it appears to be made up of three distinct muscles. the shoulder anatomy includes the anterior deltoid, the lateral deltoid, and the posterior deltoid, as well as the four rotator cuff muscles. Its’ origin is the attachment at the shoulder and it extends to attach to the insertion of the humerus (arm muscle). It is a three- headed muscle that caps the shoulder.

Deltoid Muscle Posterior

The function of the Deltoid muscle is basically to move the arm away from the body. The Anterior head raises it away to the front, the Lateral head raises it away up and to the side, while the Posterior head moves it away to the rear.

Anatomy of the Deltoid Muscle:

Anterior head
Lateral head
Posterior head

All three Deltoid heads attach to the Humerus (arm muscle). The Anterior and Lateral heads originate on the collar bone (Clavicle), while the Posterior head originates on the shoulder bone (Scapula). The Anterior Deltoid contributes to many pectoral muscle movement. The Lateral Deltoid is most active in lateral movements, and the Posterior Deltoid is often activated when back exercises that involve the Teres Major and Rhomboid muscles happen.
