Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis Muscle Posterior
ORIGIN AND INSERTION
It arises from the lateral epicondyle of humerus that is also known as common extensor origin. The insertion point of ERCB is the dorsal surface of base of the third metacarpal bone.
BLOOD SUPPLY
The blood supply of extensor carpi radialis brevis is from the radial artery through small muscular branches.
NERVE SUPPLY
The innervation of ERCB is through the deep branch of the radial nerve (C7, C8).
FUNCTIONS
It has got many functions involving the wrist joint. The main functions of ERCB are extension and abduction of the hand. It plays its role in clenching of the fist. It functions synergistically with the other muscles like extensor carpi ulnaris in making a steady flexion of the digits.
