Extensor Retinaculum
Extensor retinaculum is the thickened deep fascia at the back of the wrist that supports, holds and gives passage to the tendons of extensor muscles. It holds the extensor tendons together and provides protection due to its thickness.

Extensor Retinaculum
It has the shape of a band that runs obliquely and medially. It is directed in a downward direction. It has a breadth of about 2cm.
The retinaculum is attached to lower part of the anterior border of radius bone laterally and its medial attachments are styloid process of ulna, triquetral and pisiform bones.
As the thick band of extensor retinaculum passes posterior to radius in route to anterior surface, it form compartments for different extensor tendons. The synovial sheath is present in these compartments for protection.
The tendons of abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, ECRL, ERCB, extensor pollicis longus, extensor digitorum, extensor indicis, and extensor digiti minimi and extensor carpi ulnaris pass through the extensor retinaculum. Other than tendons, the Posterior interosseous nerve and anterior interosseous artery also pass through the extensor retinaculum.
