Thyrohyoid Membrane
Membrana thyreohyoidea, membrana hyothyreoidea are the Latin pronunciations for Thyrohyoid Membrane which is also known as Hyothyroid Membrane. It is a broad, elastic fiber layer which is attached below the upper side of Thyroid Cartilage and in front to Superior Cornu (Horn) of Thyroid Cartilage. This membrane also comes in contact with the inner branches of Superior Laryngeal Nerve at its thinner lateral sides.

Thyrohyoid Membrane
Thyrohyoid membrane helps in creating the conditions necessary for the upward movement of the Larynx during Deglutition (Swallowing). It coats the Larynx near the origin of Middle Constrictor Muscle which facilitates in the connection between Larynx and Internal Laryngeal artery and nerve. The middle thicker part of the membrane is known as Middle Hypothyroid Ligament. Thyrohyoid membrane anterior region relates with muscles i.e. Omohyoideus Thyrohyoideus Sternohyoideus Internal Laryngeal Nerve descends into the Thyrohyoid Membrane while piercing it with Superior Laryngeal Artery and then distributed to Mucous Membrane of the Larynx. The neck cancer usually penetrates the Thyroid Cartilage or Thyrohyoid Membrane which might result in spreading of tumor from Laryngeal area to the soft neck tissues. MUSCLE ATTACHMENTS
