Urinary Bladder
1. Urinary Bladder is an important part of human Urinary System. It is the organ that stores urine, after it is formed, till excreted out of it via Urethra. Its shape is like a three side pyramid but placed down on one of its sides. It has a base, 3 sides and an apex directed forwards. It is muscular and hollow from inside.
2. Detrusor Muscle is the muscle of Urinary Bladder. It is present in the form of a layer inside the wall of Urinary Bladder. It contracts in cycle followed by relaxation, under the action of Parasympathetic nerve supply, to empty bladder.
3. In males Bladder is placed inside pelvic cavity when empty and extends to anterior abdominal wall as it fills. Posteriorly it rests on prostate gland. It has and internal and an external sphincter below to control Urination.

URINARY CAPACITY
It is distensible organ and stretches to store urine. It can store 400 to 600 ml of urine.
NERVE SUPPLY
- It is supplied by both sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. Sympathetic nerves arise from Hypogastric plexus.
- Parasympathetic nerves arise from Inferior Hypogastric Plexus and Pelvic Splanchnic Nerves.
MICTURITION
For micturition (urination) bladder muscle must contract under action of Parasympathetic nerve supply and external and internal sphincters opened. Urine flows out of it via Urethra till its empty. Internal sphincter can be contracted voluntarily to delay micturition.
