Common Iliac Artery
Common Iliac Arteries are formed as direct continuation of the Abdominal Aorta at the point where it bifurcates. There are two of them in every normal human on each side- left and right. They are large arteries dividing further giving more branches.

STRUCTURE AND POSITION
- Common Iliac Artery is usually 4 cm long and more than 1 cm wide in a normal adult.
- Common Iliac Artery begins at bifurcation of Abdominal Aorta and ends by giving of two branches on each side.
- Common Iliac Artery starts anterior and just left to 4th Lumbar Vertebra.
RELATIONS
- Common Iliac Artery runs on each side downwards and laterally.
- Common Iliac Artery lies just medial to Psoas Muscles in its course.
- Each Common Iliac Artery divides in front of Sacroiliac Joint.
- Each of them is accompanied by Common Iliac vein posteriorly.
- Ureters cross them anteriorly at point of their bifurcation.
BRANCHES
Each Common Iliac Artery has 2 main branches at its termination.

External Iliac Artery supplies thighs and lower limb and foot via its branches.

Internal Iliac Artery supplies pelvic organs like vagina, urinary bladder and prostate etc.
Some other branches include:
- Muscular and tissues branches in ureter region supplying muscles and tissues around.
- Accessory branch to Renal Artery is also present.
