●       Fallopian Tube is hollow from inside and lined with Ciliated Epithelium.

●       It is trumpet shaped and is further divided as :

• Infundibulum is the most lateral part of the tube and has fimbriae connected to the Ovary.

• Ampullary region is the lateral major portion of the tube.

• Isthmus comes medial to the ampullary region and is narrower portion of the tube.

• Interstitial part is present most most medially and resides inside the mass of Uterus to which it is connected

●       Each Fallopian Tube is usually 10 cm long.

BLOOD SUPPLY AND LYMPHATICS

Fallopian Tubes receive blood through Tubal branches of Uterine and Ovarian Artery.

Fallopian Tubes drain their lymph into the Lumbar Lymph nodes.

FUNCTION AND SIGNIFICANCE

• Fallopian Tubes carry egg from the Ovary to the Uterus for conception. They do this by  the movement of cilia of their lining epithelium and movement of muscles in fimbriae and tube.
• Fallopian Tubes can be malformed. They can be non patent (not having hollow inside) which requires surgery (Tuboplasty).
• Fallopian Tubes can get infected and inflamed in Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.
• Fallopian Tube Cancer is a rare form of cancer which can arise in its epithelium.
• Fallopian Tubes can be removed with or without Ovaries through Surgery.
