Oropharynx
Oropharynx is present between the other two parts of the pharynx, extending from the soft palate above and epiglottis below.
Oropharynx opens into the mouth through the isthmus of oropharynx. It is bounded by the two palatoglossal arches on both sides. It faces the pharyngeal side of the tongue. Oropharynx is related with the second and third cervical vertebrae posteriorly. On its lateral sides it has palatopharyngeal arches and palatine tonsils.
Oropharynx is a muscular tube-like passage that directs the food from the mouth to the esophagus. It is also the sight where some bacterial flora are found that may cause certain diseases. It usually harbors Actinomycesspecies.
