Risorius is broad at its origin and thinner at insertion. However size and form can vary among individuals.

•    Origin: Risorius arises from zygomatic arch , parotid fascia and masseteric fascia. It blends usually with fibres of platysma and runs superficial to it.
•    Insertion: Risorius blends with other muscles of mouth around lips at its insertion.

BLOOD SUPPLY

Risorius gets its blood supply from Facial and Transverse Facial Artery.

NERVE SUPPLY

Risorius gets innervated by Facial nerve (7th cranial nerve).

ACTIONS

Risorius muscle pulls angle of mouth laterally and upwards producing an expression resembling smile. However smile produced only by its action looks fake.
