STRUCTURE AND POSITION :

•         Origin : Splenius Capitis arises from the Ligamentum Nuchae in its lower half and from the Spinous processes of the C4 to C8 Vertebrae.
•          It runs superolaterally from its origin.
•         Insertion : Muscle gets inserted into the Mastoid Process of the Skull and adjoining part of the Occipital Bone.

BLOOD SUPPLY :

Splenius Capitis receives its blood from muscular branches of the Occipital Artery.

NERVE SUPPLY :

Splenius Capitis Muscle is innervated by the Dorsal Rami of the C3, C4, C5, and C6 spinal nerves.

ACTION :

Splenius Capitis can extend the Head and Neck. It can also laterally flex or rotate the head to the same side.
