Superior Nasal Concha
Superior Nasal Concha is one of the two delicate scroll shaped plates called superior and middle nasal conchae. The back region of the Labyrinth of Ethmoid (Lateral Mass of Ethmoid Bone) is subdivided by a fissure called Superior Meatus of Nose (largest opening of nose occupying the third of the lateral wall of Nasal Cavity) which is above a thin curved plate is known as Superior Nasal Concha. Superior Nasal Concha forms the Ethmoids projections as the Ethmoid bone is roof of Nasal Cavity, Nasal Septum and Medial orbit walls.
Superior Nasal Concha is also called the turbinate bone that supports the Mucous Membrane which lines the Nasal cavity. As the air passes through the Turbinates the air is pressed against the Mucosa Lined Bone to provide warmth, moisture and cleaning. They extend through the breathing passage of the nose.
Swollen turbinates leads to the blockage of Nasal breathing. These swellings are caused due to allergies, environmental irritants and inflammation within the Sinuses.
