STRUCTURE AND POSITION :

•         Origin : Tensor Fasciae Latae arises from the Anterior Iliac Crest at its outer lip. Some of its fibres arise from the lateral aspect of the Anterior Superior Iliac Spine and lower aspect of the Iliotibial Tract.
•         It runs downwards and between Gluteus Medius and Sartorius, and later between layers of the Iliotibial Tract.
•         Insertion : Tensor Fasciae Latae is inserted into the two layers of the Iliotibial Tract in which it runs. It ends at the level of Upper one third and Lower two thirds of the thigh. Through this tract it is attached to the Lateral Condyle of Tibia.

BLOOD SUPPLY :

Tensor Fasciae Latae is supplied by the Superior and Inferior Gluteal Arteries. It also receives blood from the branches of the Femoral Artery.

NERVE SUPPLY :

Tensor Fasciae Latae gets innervated by the Superior Gluteal Nerve.

ACTION :

Tensor Fasciae Latae stabilizes the Hip and the Knee joint while standing specially on one foot.

It also flexes and medially rotates the Hip joint.
